THE TYMPANIC MEMBRANE:

PARS FLACCIDA
thicker than pars tensa
more elastin
no central layer

PARS TENSA
thinner than pars flaccida
central layer composed of outer radial and inner circular (forming annulus) fibrous layer which does not regenerate after perf (bimeric membrane)

The "cone of light" found inferiorly at approximately 5 o'clock is significant as points anteriorly, and loss of this reflection sometimes indicates the presence of pathology.
