Tonsillar Blood Supply:
From facial artery:
1. Tonsillar branch of facial artery
2. Ascending palatine from facial artery (gives tonsillar branch)
3. Tonsillar branch from lingual artery
4. Ascending pharyngeal from external carotid (gives tonsillar branch)
From Maxillary artery:
5. Lesser palatine which is a branch of the descending palatine artery (which travels through the pterygopalatine fossa) from the maxillary artery.
*As shown, the majority of the blood supply to the palatine tonsil is derived from the facial artery.
Venous Drainage- tonsillar branch of lingual vein.
Neural- Tonsillar branch of Glossopharyngeal nerve.
